Go on and Celebrate

Go On and Celebrate by shawnmanuel.com

Here’s a bright card I made for my friend Nina’s birthday. The watercolor background carries on a watercolor theme that I’ve been hooked on this Summer.

I squished some Distress Ink on a craft mat, misted it with water and dropped my watercolor paper onto the ink to create the background. After drying it with my heat tool, I dropped the paper back onto the ink a few times to create a more random pattern.

The popsicles from Simon Says Stamp’s August Card Kit and the sentiment from Mama Elephant’s Make a Wish stamp set were heat embossed with white powder. Since the sentiment was hard to read, I used Distress Markers to create a shadow and add contrast.

Glossy Accents was used to give the popsicles a melting look and to add shine to the die-cut hearts.

Today’s card focuses on alphabet stamps and making the letters part of the design. I made a “Back to Cool” card that would be great for a special student or a teacher in your life.

Most of the elements come from Lawn Fawn except for the larger chalk board which I made with some careful cutting.

My card today was inspired by the Studio Calico May Card Kit Camelot.

This kit was a box full of ideas and although it included many colorful elements, I opted for some of the more muted tones so the gold embellishments would stand out. Don’t you just love that herringbone vellum? It is so unique. I also used a sewing machine for the first time to stitch gold thread along the top of the champagne grosgrain ribbon that was included in the kit. I think it tied it all together (pun definitely intended).

Although I didn’t use any stamps on this card, I did use craft dies from Mama Elephant; the Embellished Tag Creative Cuts for my tag and the Hello Script Creative Cuts for the sentiment.

I hope you enjoyed. Leave a comment below and check out the other submissions for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches #139 by Rita.

P.S. Here’s a little tip.

To prevent the grosgrain ribbon from fraying, I squeezed out a thin line of Ranger Multi Medium Matte on a craft sheet then dipped the ends of the ribbon. The edges keep their shape and you can’t even tell it’s there!

After receiving my Hello Sunshine haul from Lawn Fawn, I decided make this card using sketch #126 from Freshly Made Sketches.

I layered my papers on a Hero Hues Daffodil note card from Hero Arts, which I thought matched the Hello Sunshine patterned paper nicely. The green stripe is finished with a bit of Wink of Stella glitter pen to give it a little shine.
