Here’s a multi-layered birthday card featuring several products from different places that I’ve just been meaning to use.
The birthday sentiment was made by layering several die cuts from the Studio Calico Birthday Stamp & Craft Die Set. I cut the top layer from a scrap of cardstock that I completely embossed with Ranger Liquid Platinum embossing power. By embossing first and die cutting later, the finish on the sentiment ended up smooth and without the bumpy texture you usually get from embossing powder.
Next I used Stampin’ Up! Classic Ink Pads to stamp the flowers and leaves from the Favorite Flowers stamp set from Simon Says Stamp’s June Card Kit and cut them out. All of the pieces were layered using liquid glue and foam dots on the background that was made using the Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impression embossing folder by Stampin’ Up! with Sizzix.
I hope you like it. I think this one is going to Mom for her birthday.
My card today was inspired by the Studio Calico May Card Kit Camelot.
This kit was a box full of ideas and although it included many colorful elements, I opted for some of the more muted tones so the gold embellishments would stand out. Don’t you just love that herringbone vellum? It is so unique. I also used a sewing machine for the first time to stitch gold thread along the top of the champagne grosgrain ribbon that was included in the kit. I think it tied it all together (pun definitely intended).
Although I didn’t use any stamps on this card, I did use craft dies from Mama Elephant; the Embellished Tag Creative Cuts for my tag and the Hello Script Creative Cuts for the sentiment.
I hope you enjoyed. Leave a comment below and check out the other submissions for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches #139 by Rita.
P.S. Here’s a little tip.
To prevent the grosgrain ribbon from fraying, I squeezed out a thin line of Ranger Multi Medium Matte on a craft sheet then dipped the ends of the ribbon. The edges keep their shape and you can’t even tell it’s there!
For today’s card, I used a stamp, paper and embellishments from Studio Calico with dies from Mama Elephant to create a scene reminiscent of the sky opening up after a storm. I thought it worked well with the sentiment.
